Accessibility and Blue Glider
Blue Glider promotes accessibility, or inclusive design. We advocate websites that work for everyone, including visitors with disabilities. Our website has a number of accessibility features to comply as much as possible with W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC).
Accessibility features
- Adjustable text size and high contrast colours
- Descriptive HTML content
- Easy to use navigation system - without the need for a mouse
Skip to content link
This link is hidden in the code. It sits at the top of each web page for visitors using screen readers (also called voice synthesizers). With the skip to content link these visitors can move more easily to the main body text, preventing the screen reader from reading through all top navigational links.
Adjustable text size and high contrast colours
The top right of each web page has buttons to increase or decrease the text size, as required. Each click makes the text increasingly larger or smaller.
We’ve also designed the Blue Glider site for easy reading with high contrast colours.
Descriptive HTML content
All content on our site is descriptive HTML. This is to enhance general usability and assist visitors with screen readers. Descriptive HTML content includes:
- Body content
- Alternative text for images
- Navigation and link text
Future additions to this site, such as tables, PDF’s or audio/video content will have HTML equivalents.
Easy to use navigation system - without the need for a mouse
We have added two mouse independent features for visitors with motor impairments:
Access keys: keyboard shortcuts for navigation to main site areas
Tab key navigation: navigate all links on the Blue Glider website with the tab key
